Keystone Bar & Grill Presents Check to Freestore Foodbank

Nearly 100,000 children living in the 20 counties served by the Freestore Foodbank are at risk of hunger. As part of its holiday giving campaign, Keystone Bar & Grill donated $4,000 from sales of its mac & cheese to the Freestore Foodbank’s Power Pack program.

A Power Pack is a bag of nutritious food given to students each Friday during the school year to ensure they have something to eat on the weekends. Participating schools identify children in need to take part. Each Power Pack contains 9-12 food items, which are shelf-stable and easy to prepare. A few examples include: sun butter, whole grain cereals, fruit and vegetable juices, sunflower seeds, apple oatmeal bars, complete pasta meals and other healthy options. The Freestore Foodbank provides nearly 4,000 Power Packs each week to students in need in the Tri-State through more than 90 participating schools and organizations.

Keystone Bar & Grill is known for its award-winning mac & cheese. To help combat childhood hunger, all three Keystone locations (Covington, Hyde Park, and Clifton) donated a portion of sales from each mac & cheese dish sold during the holiday season. This is their fifth annual holiday donation to the Freestore Foodbank.

“Our business centers around feeding people, so it only makes sense for us to give back to the community through the Freestore Foodbank,” said Dan Cronican, Keystone Bar & Grill owner and 4EG partner. “The Freestore Foodbank’s Power Pack program has immediate and long-term positive effects on our neighborhoods.”

Research shows that hungry children are more likely to be vulnerable to illness, lack focus and energy, and score lower on achievement tests. Those children become more likely to suffer from poverty as adults. Keystone’s $4,000 donation will support 20 students in the weekend feeding program for an entire school year.

The check presentation took place on Thursday, January 22nd, at the Freestore Foodbank’s Jeff and Darlene Anderson Family Building (Administrative Offices).
